Application Process
You can apply at the Civil Registry or online. Prepare your passport, NIE (foreigner identification number), residence card, birth certificate (translated and legalised), criminal background certificates from Spain and your home country, proof of address, marriage certificate (if applicable) and evidence of lawful and continuous residence. You will also need certificates showing you have passed the DELE A2 language exam and the CCSE citizenship exam.
An application fee of around β¬60ββ¬104 is paid when you submit your file. Additional fees apply for the CCSE exam (about β¬85) and the DELE A2 exam (between β¬108 and β¬220), plus translation and legalisation costs. The review process can take one to three years. If approved you will take the Oath of Allegiance to the Spanish Constitution and King at the registry and will then renounce your previous nationality if required.
