Application Process

You apply for naturalisation at your local municipality (gemeente). Bring your passport, valid residence permit, birth certificate (legalised and translated if necessary), certificate of civic integration exam and proof of five years of uninterrupted residence. If you have a partner or children applying with you, additional documents will be required.

The municipality will check your documents and submit your application to the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND). Fees are paid at the time of application: around €970 for an individual, €1,238 for a married couple or registered partners, and lower rates for stateless persons or minors. The IND must decide your application within one year. If approved you will be invited to a naturalisation ceremony where you take the declaration of solidarity and receive your certificate.
