Language and Integration Requirements
Since 2018, most adult applicants must demonstrate knowledge of Italian at B1 level or higher. This is usually proven by passing a certified exam at an approved institution or by holding an Italian school diploma. Those with long‑term EU residence permits may not need to provide language certification.
Italy does not have a formal multiple‑choice citizenship test. Instead the authorities evaluate your integration into Italian society, including your knowledge of Italian culture and adherence to constitutional values. Attending an oath ceremony is mandatory to finalise your naturalisation.
