Eligibility
The standard route to Italian citizenship by naturalisation requires nonโEU citizens to have legally resided in Italy for at least ten years. EU citizens can apply after four years, and individuals with an Italian parent or grandparent may qualify after two years.
You must hold a valid residence permit, be registered with your local municipality and have sufficient income (for singles around โฌ8,300 per year, higher for families). Applicants must be at least 18, have no serious criminal convictions and demonstrate knowledge of Italian at B1 level or higher.
