Language and Test

Most applicants must prove German language proficiency at B1 level on the Common European Framework of Reference. This can be demonstrated through a recognised language certificate, a completed integration course or a German school diploma.

You must also pass the Einbürgerungstest. The test covers German law, society and history. It consists of 33 multiple‑choice questions; you need at least 17 correct answers to pass. Certain people are exempt, including those who have completed school in Germany or hold a degree in German studies.
